Burgess Cellars has promoted winemaker Kelly Woods to winemaker-general manager. Woods has served as head winemaker of this 45-year old family owned estate since 2013. In her expanded role, she will oversee all department operations and strategically planning.
Woods, a UC Davis graduate, joined Burgess Cellars in January 2013 as winemaker, bringing innovations to harvest, fermentation and aging protocols.
With the addition of the General Manager position, Woods’ role expands beyond wine production and vineyard, to include a focus on hospitality, sales, marketing and administration.
“When I was hiring the position of winemaker back in 2012, I was trying to find a candidate that would grow into an upper management position once they learned the company,” said owner Steven Burgess. “Kelly’s wisdom and span of control has steadily grown here, she has truly earned this official promotion.”
