Napa Valley residents love to receive special treatment at local wineries. The Napa Neighbor program allows them to do just that.

What is the Napa Neighbor program?

Started by the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) in 2001, Napa Neighbor brings together people who live in Napa County with local wineries. Show your Napa County driver’s license to enjoy VIP treatment, like complimentary or upgraded tours and wine tasting, as well as special discounts on wine.

How many wineries participate?

More than 160 wineries offer locals VIP status through the Napa Neighbor program.

Do I need an appointment to participate in Napa Neighbor?

To protect the agricultural nature of Napa Valley and to promote sustainable wine tourism, Napa County requires many wineries to receive visitors by appointment only. Each participating winery indicates on the Napa Neighbor web page (napaneighbor.com) whether an advance appointment is required.

Will I get a free tasting for being a Napa Neighbor?

Napa Neighbor offers vary by winery. Many do feature complimentary wine tastings. Others offer two—for—one tastings, purchase discounts and unique or upgraded experiences.

Can I bring my friends?

For those of us who live in wine country, it is a source of pride to receive special treatment at our local wineries, especially when we bring our friends and out—of—town guests. Some Napa Neighbor participating wineries understand this and extend their special offer to everyone in your group. Others have limits on the number of guests they can serve with each Napa Neighbor visit. We recommend you call ahead to the winery you wish to visit to find out how their Napa Neighbor offer works.

Why did NVV start the program?

NVV created Napa Neighbor with these goals in mind: to help residents and vintners connect and get to know each other; to offer something special to people who live in Napa County to thank them for supporting our local wine industry; and to bring visitors to local wineries during the slower times, like the middle of the week or the winter season.

Is now a good time for locals to enjoy the Napa Neighbor program?

Following the recent wildfires, now is a great time to experience the Napa Neighbor program. Many wineries have seen a reduction in visitation due to the fires and they would be delighted to host some of their neighbors and friends during this slower time. November through April and mid-week are also great times to enjoy being a Napa Neighbor. Now more than ever, Napa Neighbors can help their winery neighbors by visiting and purchasing wine.

Has there ever been a Napa Neighbor Day?

Yes! In addition to the regular program, NVV sometimes organizes Napa Neighbor Days when participating wineries enhance their offers making their experience even more special for locals. January 13, 2018 is the next Napa Neighbor Day – watch for more details coming soon.
