Memorial Day

A flag flutters in the breeze on a grave marker at the cemetery at the Veterans Home of California at Yountville.

On Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m., a group of local volunteers will clean the individual headstones and grave markers at the Veterans Memorial Grove Cemetery. This civic event is in preparation for Memorial Day, May 27.

Members of the public invited to assist the preparations. The cemetery has over 5,700 veterans interred, dating back to the Civil War. This is a great opportunity to perform a duty to the servicemen buried at the Veterans Home of California Yountville. Refreshments to be available for all work party participants. Call Bob Sundin to sign up at 707-224-1766 and leave a message or email topsundin@hotmail.com with the subject line, "Yountville Cemetery Work Day" so organizers can establish a head count. In your message, please leave contact information and if possible, indicate if you are able to bring power washers and/or hoses.
