Crafted from grapes from a storied vineyard the MX 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon lives up to the storied vineyard’s reputation.
Crafted by Margaux Singleton, owner of Enoteca Wine Shop on Lincoln Avenue, the wine is a blend of clones planted at To Kalon in Oakville and Singleton made it in a classic style reminiscent of a “favorite Left Bank property in Bordeaux.”
To Kalon, which is Greek for “highest beauty” is one of the oldest continuously planted vineyards in America, growing grapes on the property since 1868.
It has a deep, clear garnet color with aromas of chocolate covered cherries. It has a lush mouthfeel with flavors of ripe fruit, mocha, black tea, and hints of vanilla.
Singleton’s first MX vintage was in 2004 and she sources fruit from stellar vineyards using only indigenous yeast with no additives, adjustments or fining agents. The wines are aged in 100 percent French oak barrels coopered by the same family who created the barrels for Chateau Pétrus, and bottled in glass produced by the same French company as Domaine de la RomanéeConti for their bottles. MX also produces a Zinfandel, both of which are available for purchase at Enoteca.
Enoteca has been in business for more than 20 years selling wines personally selected by Singleton. There are wines in every price point, including wines for every day drinking and the rare finds protectively tucked away is the right conditions in the “Reserve Room” held there to preserve what’s inside.
Singleton is usually the one in the store providing guidance and assistance to customers. Enoteca is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1348-B Lincoln Ave.
