Napa County’s “Arts in April” begins its month-long celebration in Calistoga during the final days of March, and Blackbird joins the festivities with “Barns and Bowls” and a reception on the afternoon of Sunday, April 2.

The barns of painter Janet Berrien and the bowls of ceramicist Bean Finneran make up the exhibition.

Local resident, Bean Finneran, whose work is well-known nationally and internationally, created the bowl series as a tribute to the simple, agrarian life and the ritual of daily nourishment served in functional art. Included with the bowls in this exhibit will be some of Finneran’s geometric puzzles as examples of her latest expression of art through ceramics.

Bay Area artist Berrien became intrigued with the picturesque barns dotting the roadsides as she traveled to and from her Napa studio. It gave birth to this series of barns and their powerful presence as a tribute to the value of small family farms.

The artists’ reception for this exhibition at Blackbird is on Sunday, April 2 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., 1347 Lincoln Ave., and is open to all.
