Plants for free at Memorial Park

Plants such as these, located now at Logvy Park, will be offered for free when they are removed to make room for bushes for the Veteran's Memorial Park.

The American Legion, which maintains the Veterans Memorial at Logvy Park, is getting ready to spruce things up there, and offering up free plants to the public.

Jim Barnes, adjutant for American Legion 231 and Calistoga city councilmember, said that the veteran’s group is poised to remove some bushes at the Memorial, adjacent to Logvy Park, and the public is welcome to take the plants for free.

Starting on Monday, April 9, the hedges bordering portions of the memorial area will be removed. Barnes said they will be set aside so that starting on April 10 the community can pick up what they like of the plants that have been removed. He estimates that there are about 24 smaller plants and about 14 big plants.

Beginning around April 15 there will be a work party that will get together to install irrigation, plant new hedges and install new walkways between the plantings.

The project is made possible, in part, by an enrichment grant from the city to Calistoga Rotary in the amount of $5,000.
