County Medi-Cal Services

Every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. a Medi-Cal workers is available to help with Medi-Cal, food stamp questions or to fill out applications. Held at the UpValley Family Center, 1705 Washington St. For appointments or information, call 341-3185.

Healthy Minds, Healthy Aging

A support and assistance for older adults service provided at Rianda House Senior Activity Center on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. The center is located at 1475 Main St., St. Helena. Assistance in Calistoga is provided on the first Thursday of the month by appointment. Info: 963-8555.

PWR!Moves

For those 50 and older living with Parkinson’s Disease, Essential Tremor or balance issues, this free movement class will help increase strength, balance and posture. Every Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Calistoga Community Center. Free. Drop-ins welcome.

Tai Chi

Combining slow, meditative movement, Tai Chi helps aid in relaxation, balance and posture. This class is designed for those 50 and older. Every Friday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Calistoga Community Center. Free. Drop-ins welcome.

Calistoga Farmers Market

Find fresh local produce and artisan wares at the weekly Saturday Farmers Market. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1235 Washington St.

Adult Guitar Workshop

Join Dan Willinger for free, small-group, beginner-focused guitar workshops at the Calistoga Library. Build your skills and knowledge, learn how to practice at home, and work on everything from chord shapes and simple songs to reading music notation and tablature. Adults meet third Saturdays, 10-11 a.m. Limit of six students per workshop, so register in advance by calling the library at 942-4833.

Storytime

Copperfield’s Books, 1330 Lincoln Ave., holds a weekly Storytime reading for children beginning at 11 a.m.

Chili Cook-off

The Knights Valley Volunteer Fire Department will hold its seventh annual Chili Cook-off from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oak Ridge Angus Ranch, 13520 Highway 128. Volunteer cooks from Napa and Sonoma counties along with fire departments and well-known cook-off competitors will compete for the titles of “Best Chili” and “Best Ribs” and to win grand prizes. The money raised from the event supports the volunteer fire department’s firehouse improvements. Tickets are $25 for adults, $7.50 for kids 12 and under, and children under 6 eat for free. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.

Small Hands Big Hearts Auction and Dinner

Hearts and Hands Preschool’s annual fundraiser, Small Hands Big Hearts, will be held at Casa Nuestra Winery, 3451 Silverado Trail, St. Helena, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be prepared by Chef Rick Warkel and paired with wine. Art Tastings

Art Tastings is an easy going social series that offers a chance to learn something new, held every Monday at the Calistoga Art Center, 1435 N. Oak St. Each date may highlight art, music or a lecture. Snacks provided. Today’s event is a Photomontage/Collage Box Keepsake. Artist Ann Renard will show you how to create your own keepsake wooden box using your favorite photos, magazine clippings and papers, and other material. Free.

The third Tuesday of each month food is distributed from the “Rock room” at the Napa County Fairgrounds, 1435 N. Oak St., to those who meet certain criteria from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and again from 4 to 6 p.m. Info: 942-6042.

Free Medicare counseling (HICAP)

Every first and third Wednesday of the month Calistoga Family Center, 1705 Washington St., offers free Medicare counseling between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Call Elena at 341-3185 for more information or to set up an appointment with a representative.

Lunch and Learn

Join in a lively educational activity, have a healthy lunch and learn about resources available in Napa County. Geared to those ages 50 and older. Reservations are required for this free event that is held the third Wednesday of each month. To reserve a spot call 963-8555.
