Andrew Frank Turner, USN Ret.

1924—2018

Andrew Frank “Bud” Turner was greeted in heaven by his parents Thomas A. Turner and Margaret “Greta” Thornburn; and his grandparents Andrew V. and Maggie E. Turner who were very early Napa Valley pioneers, and John and Helen Thornburn of Great Britain. While attending Calistoga High School, he played the clarinet in the high school band that won the national small school band championship at the 1939 World’s Fair onTreasure Island. Bud graduated from Calistoga High School in 1941, and immediately joined the Navy where he served on a number of ships in both World War II, and the Korean conflict. He reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and retired after a distinguished twenty-four year career in 1965. He then spent sixteen more years as a Navy Reservist.

Additionally, he spent twenty years working for the United States Postal Service. After retiring from the Post Office, he was a desk clerk for Motel 6. He was a fifty-four year member of the Fleet Reserve Association, and a member of the Santa Barbara Elks Lodge. He was an avid train enthusiast, and he had an extensive collection of vintage baseball caps (over 250), and of big band era albums (over 500).

Bud was a warm, kind person with a great sense of humor who always had a smile on his face and a joke for every occasion. He lived the last fifty years of his life in Santa Barbara and leaves behind two cousins: Betty Becker of Santa Rosa, and Dan Turner of Carmichael, and their families. Private graveside services were held at the St Helena Cemetery on April 9.
