Saturday, Oct. 21 allows us two excellent opportunities to be good stewards of our soil and water resources—and to do a little fall cleaning in the process! Calistogans and UpValley residents will have the perfect opportunity to safely dispose of old, unwanted/expired medications (prescription, non-prescription and opiates), plus used “sharps” (syringes). To safely transport “sharps,” use a puncture-resistant container, such as a lidded coffee can or bleach bottle and label the containers “sharps.” Pet medications are also welcome.
Soroptimist International of Calistoga will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Calistoga Farmers Market for a free curbside collection in partnership with the Calistoga Police Department and Adventist Health’s St. Helena Hospital. The collected items are transported for proper disposal in the hospital’s special incinerator.
That same day, Upper Valley Disposal is hosting a free household hazardous waste drop-off for their customers (who receive waste collection services from Upper Valley Disposal Services or use Clover Flat Landfill) at the Napa County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rid your homes of fluorescent bulbs, batteries, antifreeze, oil filters, aerosol spray cans, used motor oil, paints and more. Please do not transport over 15 gallons or 125 pounds at one time. Further information on household waste can be obtained from the Upper Valley Waste Management Agency at (707) 259-8330.
Now, that’s a good day’s worth of cleaning -- we’ll see you on Saturday, Oct. 21!
President, Soroptimist International of Calistoga
