A former employee of the St. Helena Ag Boosters allegedly embezzled more than $78,000, according to charges from the Napa County District Attorney.
Kelly Aileen Barfield, 32, is charged with two felony counts related to embezzlement.
The District Attorney's office accused Barfield of embezzling the money over a year-long period, according to documents filed Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Napa County Superior Court. The founder of St. Helena Ag Boosters discovered a cashier's check was endorsed by Barfield and deposited into her personal account in March, according to a St. Helena Police Department document filed in court.
Barfield has disappeared from the area and has not even spoken with friends or family, according to court documents, and might be in North Carolina.
An Oct. 3 call to Barfield seeking comment and emails sent to the St. Helena Ag Boosters were not returned.
