UpValley Family Center's Back to School draws 1,000

Last Friday UpValley Family Centers hosted its 13th annual Back to School Celebration in partnership with Calistoga Joint Unified School District. Forty-five organizations provided resource tables with information, activities and resources for community members.

With more than 1,000 people in attendance it was the center’s largest turnout ever. A free meal, entertainment and children’s activities were provided. Student volunteers helped to ensure there was minimal trash from the event with 445 pounds of trash diverted from the landfill due to composting and recycling throughout the evening.

Sponsors of the event include Calistoga Joint Unified School District, CalMart, Calistoga Rotary, Cottage Grove Inn, The Doctors Company, Jones Family Vineyards owners Elaine and Rick Jones, and Westamerica Bank.

UpValley provides a number of programs throughout the year including the Back to School event, a bilingual school readiness and socialization playgroup for children ages 2-5, CLARO/CLARA, which is a weekly boys and girls youth mentoring groups for middle and high school teens,Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), which is a one-on-one parent consultation or discussion group on parenting and managing various child behaviors, Latino Family Literacy Project with classes that boost literacy and family engagement, and more.
