Dr. Rochelle Manangkil

Dr. Rochelle Manangkil is board certified in pediatric dentistry.

Pediatric dentist Dr. Rochelle Manangkil described herself as “passionate” about making the dental health experience fun and rewarding for children, which is why she made the decision to invest in building a “beautiful, state-of-the-art office with an outer-space theme that kids love.”

She’s even been known to sing to her young patients to help ease their nerves, said the dentist.

Manangkil and her husband live in American Canyon with their five-year-old daughter.

1. Which three people would you most like to have dinner with?

I would love to have dinner with Beyoncé, Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart.

2. What job would you like to try/not try?

Try: Personal stylist

Not try: Bee keeper

3. What was your first job?

Administrative assistant for Allstate Insurance in Walnut Creek

4. How did you get into the dental industry?

My grandfather and family dentist encouraged me to consider dentistry in high school. I decided I wanted to be a dentist after attending a Cal Pre-Dental Society field trip to UCSF Dental School. I was so excited about the denture lab. It combined my career goals of medicine and art, both of which I love.

5. What is the biggest challenge the dental industry has faced?

The most difficult challenge that pediatric dentistry has faced is the increasing amount of cariogenic foods and beverages that children consume. In our fast-paced lives, we parents often give our children processed snacks and foods and sweetened drinks instead of whole fruits, vegetables and homemade meals. Nutritional counseling and early dental care are key. Parents need to inform themselves as much as possible.

6. Who do you most admire in the business world?

Andrew Carnegie. I admire his business acumen, ability to connect with people and philanthropy.

7. What is one thing you hope to accomplish in your lifetime that you haven’t yet?

I’d like to take my mom on a trip to Europe and buy a Corvette for my dad.

8. If you could change one thing about the dental industry what would it be?

I’d want better dental insurance coverage for children.

9. What’s something people might be surprised to know about you?

I love to do yoga and golf. I love corny jokes.

10. What was your childhood ambition?

At five years old, I wanted to be an artist. When I was eleven, I wanted to be a neurosurgeon.
