Patricia (Trish) Etchison passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Scarsdale, New York, on June 18, 2014, after a valiant fight with cancer. Trish was born in 1934, Dover, United Kingdom, and never lost her English accent or indomitable British will, despite moving to California in 1970. She succeeded at many jobs, including Industrial Indemnity and The Doctors Company.
She will be missed by her children, Susan Booth (Fenton) and Mark Smith (Wendy); and grandchildren Allister, Shelby, Devin, Bennett and Nick. Her positive energy will also be missed by her beloved brother. Dr. Paul Waters, and sister-in-law Dr. Cheryl Waters; sister Jill Atkinson (Thomas) and brother Colin Waters (Flora); along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Harry F. Smith, and her husband, William Etchison. She also leaves her stepson, Stephen (Susan) Etchison, and granddaughters Sara and Shana. Trish had many friends and will be missed by her book club, tai chi students, fellow employees, neighbors and many others.

She loved her family, friends, tea, dancing and music — especially the Rolling Stones. Her ashes will be scattered over the white cliffs of Dover, per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations, in memory of Patricia Etchison, can be made to “The Trustees of Columbia University” and sent to Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Iwamoto’s Brain Tumor Research , Office of Development, 100 Haven Ave., Suite 29D, New York, NY 10032 (Attn: Matt Reals). A memorial is planned for August 10 in California.
