Vallejo native Isaiah “The Sexy Ninja” Perales, who has family in American Canyon, was one of the local winners in the first-ever major mixed martial arts competition held in Napa County.
Napa Valley Expo’s Chardonnay Hall in Napa was jam-packed for Bay Area Combat-North Bay Face Off II on June 30.
Perales faced Rancho Cordova’s Colton Newmarch, a combatant out of FightKore MMA who walked to the ring draped with an American flag.
Newmarch went for a takedown just into the first round, but Perales pushed him off. Perales made it clear early that this was a brawl he was confident in winning. Perales continued to counter any attempt Newmarch had at putting Perales right to the ground.
Having trained in Muay Thai for many years, Perales has a strong lower body and is a load to handle. He landed multiple strong punches. With only 10 seconds remaining in the first round, Perales smashed blow after blow to the face of Newmarch and the 22-year-old fighter fell to the ground. There were zero seconds left in the first round when the referee called the fight by technical knockout.
“I knew when I (saw) him at the weigh-ins, I knew he wasn’t really feeling it,” Perales said. “I knew I was going to knock him out this morning. Thank you so much for my team and my coaches.”
Brandon Giron, who as a junior was American Canyon High’s top golfer this spring, placed 13th in the boys 14-18 division of the Marin County Junior Golf Championship on June 27 at Indian Valley Golf Club in Novato. It was a Junior Golf Association of Northern California event.
The JGANC offers over 60 tournaments per year for boys and girls ages 7-18 at various public, semi-private and private courses throughout Northern California, according to jganc.com.
