Lylah Awad and Ellie Angold were the only American Canyon players to win at the Vine Valley Athletic League Championships, taking their doubles opener over a Napa pair Tuesday at the Napa Valley Tennis Association courts behind Vintage High in Napa. They were eliminated by a Sonoma Valley team in the second round.
The other Napa High doubles team held off the Wolves’ Genesis Billingsley and Yesi Alvarez in their doubles opener, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10).
In Monday’s singles openers, American Canyon’s Berke Nauright fell 6-1, 6-1 to a Casa Grande foe, and Grace Warioba lost to the eventual runner-up from Justin-Siena, 6-0, 6-0.
Her sophomore season finally came to an end for American Canyon’s Katie Robinson, who shot an 80 in Monday’s 18-hole CIF North Coast Section Division 1 Girls Championships at Tilden Park Golf Course in Berkeley.
Three teams qualified for the Nov. 5 NorCal Championships at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club in Lodi. Also advancing were the top four individuals not on those teams, who shot between 72 and 74.
