To conclude the celebration of its 125th consecutive vintage year, Nichelini Family Winery has produced its first sparkling wine.
Tucked away in the cooler Chiles Valley District of Napa Valley, Nichelini has created a blend of 50 percent pinot grigio and 50 percent sauvignon blanc. It was naturally fermented in the bottle in the traditional French method. It was first released last weekend at the winery, 2950 Sage Canyon Road.
“I wanted to try something that our family had never done before and discover what our terroir can do for a sparkling wine,” said Aimée Sunseri, fifth-generation Nichelini winemaker. “The pinot grigio is fairly typical for this style of wine while the sauvignon blanc was chosen to bring a crispness. We only made 125 cases, one for each year since our founding.” It is priced at $35.
