St. Helena's Dia de Los Muertos celebration is Oct. 28

Paper mache' animals at Dia de los Muertos

Colorful and festive paper mache’ animals were on display at the Upper Valley Campus of the Napa Valley College on Sunday for the Dia de los Muertos celebration, hosted by the UpValley Family Centers and Nimbus Arts.

Dia de Los Muertos Celebration

The 11th Annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration, sponsored by the UpValley Family Center and Nimbus Arts, will be presented from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Upper Valley Campus, Napa Valley College, 1088 College Ave. in St. Helena.

The event features music, dancing, arts & crafts, food, face painting and traditional altars for those we have lost.

The Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, especially in the central and south regions and by people of Mexican heritage everywhere. It focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died and help support their spiritual journey.

In 2018, it begins on Wednesday, Oct. 31 and ends Friday, Nov. 2.
