I learn from a story in the Register Geoff Ellsworth spent $117,000 to win the November election for mayor. This is an unprecedented and obscene amount of money.

I have been involved in or watched avidly from the sidelines every local election since I moved here in 1985. I am shocked at this level of spending for political office. Would the City Council entertain limits on campaign spending? I suggest $20,000 for council, including mayor.
