David “Petey” Young Phil Kim, 36, passed away suddenly while playing basketball on July 1, 2012.
He was born in Los Angeles on June 21, 1976 to Andrew and Esther Kim. He responded to God’s call into pastoral ministry at age 18, serving at the church pastored by his father. He then served as the worship/youth pastor at Calvary Chapel Montebello before moving to Napa seven years ago, serving at Cornerstone Ministries until he became the founding pastor of Refuge American Canyon.
He married the love of his life, Jennifer, on June 29, 2002. They shared a passion for life and serving the Lord that inspired many people. Petey enjoyed playing basketball and skim boarding with his boys, but he was passionate about worshipping Jesus.
The Apostle Paul wrote in I Corinthians 9:22: “I have become all things to all men ... ”
To his children, Petey was the greatest father; to his wife, the most loving husband; to his friends, the best of friends; to his church, an example of joy and Christlikeness; and to his extended family and beyond, an inspiration.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer; his children, Josiah, 8, Micah, 6, Ethan, 4, and Bethany, 18 months; mother, Esther Kim; brother, Danny Kim (Diane); two nieces; and Jenn’s family, whom he loved as his own. He was predeceased by his father, Andrew Kim.
A service to honor Petey’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 6, at Cornerstone Ministries, 3305 Linda Vista Ave., Napa. Memories and words of sympathy may be sent to the family online at TulocayCemetery.org.
