“Eyes and Words to the Land, Photography and Poetry presented by Young Artists of Napa Valley” is on display at the Napa Valley Museum Yountville through May 6.
The student photography and poetry project, made possible by a grant to former Napa County Poet Laureate Dr. Beclee Wilson through the Art Council of Napa County, gave cameras to fifth and sixth grade students from three school districts. Their assignment was explore photography as an art form and then compose a poem to accompany one photograph.
“The result of this artistic experience, created by 120 young photographers and poets can now be shared in a very special space for all to see," Wilson said. "The arts are alive and well in Napa to all ages. The results of this experience can inspire all and it has been a pleasure to work with them.”
Admission to the Spotlight Gallery is included with regular admission to the museum, which currently features the exhibit “France is a Feast: the Photographic Journey of Paul & Julia Child” in its Main Gallery through May 20, and “Land & People of Napa Valley,” a permanent exhibition in the History Gallery.
