The Atlantic City Ballet will bring Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty” to the Lincoln Theater stage on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The world of fairy godmothers, evil spells, kings, queens, princes and princesses comes alive in a production of the fairy tale, set to timeless music. The production includes local dancers, stunning choreography and Tchaikovsky’s fabulous score in a classic the whole family can enjoy.

A dance lover’s dream come true, this performance includes more than 30 dancers from the nationally acclaimed Atlantic City Ballet, exquisite costumes and a lavish set, complete with magical effects and courtly splendor.

It features appearances by fairy tale favorites like Puss-In-Boots and Little Red Riding Hood, and, of course, that kiss from the handsome prince.

Atlantic City Ballet was founded in 1982 by Phyllis Papa whose career as a dancer has taken her around the world. She has danced for major companies such as American Ballet Theatre, Royal Danish Ballet and Stars of American Ballet, where she performed for President Lyndon Johnson and the Shah of Iran. Her many Royal Command Performances in Europe included the court of King Frederick IX of Denmark, known to be one of her biggest fans. She has had principal parts in “Les Sylphide,” “Etudes,” “Swan Lake,” “The Lady and the Fool” and “Triumph of Death,” and her partners included renowned dancers such as Peter Martins, Russell Chambers, Fernandez Bujones and Larry Rhodes.

After dancing as a principal ballerina of Stars of American Ballet, Papa accepted the role of artistic director. She also worked for the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Development, creating and teaching a program for neurological brain growth.

In 1998, Papa received the Brazilian Gold Medal of Honor, awarded by diplomats from Brazil, England, Italy, China and the US. She is listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who of the World, The Social Directory and the National Biographical Society.

In 1999, Ms. Papa founded the ACBT Performing Arts Academy, the official school of the Atlantic City Ballet. In 2006, she was elected to the Wall of Fame of the American Repertory Ballet.

The Atlantic City Ballet is a culturally diverse company professional dancers from around that world, who have earned acclaim for their technical expertise, clarity and exuberant stage presence. These dancers exhibit the force, delicacy and energy necessary to interpret the demanding repertoire that has become their trademark. Currently the company consists of 15 members and 10 apprentices representing countries spanning the globe, including Japan, Brazil, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Venezuela, and England.
