Ann Christine Oswald, (Chris) passed away suddenly to heaven on January 28, 2018
Chris was born to Fred and Melba Oswald in San Diego, CA on October 23, 1964. The family moved to Napa California in 1971 when Chris’ dad became employed as a teacher for the Napa School District. Chris attended Snow Elementary and during the summers was a swimmer on the Napa Seahawks Swim Team. She attended Ridgeview Junior High and graduated from Napa High in 1982. While in school she was very active in sports, honor society and leadership for school spirit activities. She was voted “Most Friendly” her senior year.
Chris attended Napa JC for two years and worked part time as a bank teller and then a customer service rep. During this time she deepened her relationship with God and became a member of First Christian Church. She helped lead a junior high youth ministry helping bring encouragement to young teens in their purpose and relationship with God.
She transferred to San Diego State working on her bachelors for Social Work. There she joined a Christian Sorority and was active in the Navigators, an on campus Christian discipleship ministry. As she finished college she traveled with her family to England to live for a year. Her father did a teacher exchange allowing them to move to London. During this stay, the family did extensive traveling through UK, Europe and Russia. This was a highly cherished opportunity for Chris.
For years Chris worked in retail as department manager and store manager while living in San Diego and then Santa Monica. She returned to banking employment when she moved back to Napa and then transitioned to human resources, employment staffing and administrative clerical work. She worked for Alkar, Nelsons Staffing, various departments in the city and county of Napa as well as the Doctors’ Company and Sutter Home Winery.
Chris had a big heart and loved people deeply. She was sweet and very kind. Her smile and laugh changed the atmosphere wherever she went. She was a hard worker, active and a go-getter. She loved to help and serve in very practical ways. And she loved to have a good time, hang out with people, have a party and bring joy and fun. She was creative and optimistic. Everyone enjoyed having Chris around because her presence made you feel better. What made this even more amazing is that she battled Multiple Sclerosis for the last 16 years of her life and was in a wheelchair the last two years of her life with challenging disabilities; however her optimistic, sweet and kind compassion only strengthened in the midst of this difficult disease. She touched and blessed many people’s lives.
Chris had a strong faith in Jesus and was always active in her church participating in bible studies, hospitality, as a leader in women’s ministry and then singles ministry and even playing on the church baseball team. She served for years in the prayer ministry with Napa Arise praying for those in need of healing and help. She carried the compassion of Christ to others. She always had a special heart for children, the overlooked and the elderly.
But Chris’ greatest love was her family and especially her two beloved nieces. Family times and gatherings were a high priority to Chris. She was predeceased by her father and is survived by her Mother of Napa, brother, Dave (Denise) Oswald of Fairfield, Sister Wendy (Dan) Ott of Napa and nieces, Katie Ott of Lynchberg VA and Carlie (Jose) Rey of Summerville, SC as well as numerous beloved extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday February 11, 2:00 PM at First Christian Church 2659 First Street in Napa. In lieu of flowers please donate to Collabria Care Day Program 414 S.
