Donald Ralph Haug, 94, passed away peacefully at home with his three daughters by his side on Friday, April 6, 2018, after battling prostate cancer. Don was the 10th of 11 children born to Ethel and Adolph Haug in Pope Valley, Ca. He graduated from St. Helena High School in 1942. After graduation he continued to work at the family ranch, prior to joining the service in January, 1945, where he proudly served in World War II as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. Don was a long time member of the American Legion. After the war, he returned home to work on the family ranch until he began his career ; first with the Napa County Agriculture department and then transferring to Solano County in 1953. He remained here until 1983, retiring as the Deputy Agriculture Commissioner. On May 15, 1955, Don married his one true love, Helen Heitz of St. Helena Ca. They resided in Napa and Vallejo before moving to Fairfield in 1968, making this their permanent home. Don was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping with family and friends, and all sports. He especially loved gardening, taking care of his fruit trees, dancing, playing and watching baseball. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church, where he enjoyed many friendships. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, of 59 years. He is survived by his three daughters, Elaine Bruno (Tom), Karen Dixon (Roy), and Diane Walton (Dave); granddaughters Tara DaMassa (Charles Crawley) and Alicia Simpson(Austin), grandsons Jacob Castro (Stacia Funnell), William and Christopher Bruno; great grandsons Colton and Connor Crawley, great granddaughters Zoey and Rylee Castro; sisters Thelma Hermes and Ramona Decker as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be at 10:15 a.m., rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m on Friday, April 20th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2700 Dover Ave., Fairfield, Ca. Immediately following mass, internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetary, 2121 Spring St., St. Helena, Ca. A reception will follow at the home of Ramona Decker, 475 Crane Ave., St. Helena, Ca. for anyone who wishes to attend.
