Gary Raymond Rawlins
Gary Raymond Rawlins passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Oct. 5, 2014. Gary was born in Napa on March 11, 1943, to John and Mona Rawlins. He attended Napa schools and graduated from Napa High in 1961. He was a three-sport athlete at Napa High, where he was voted Athlete of the Year in 1961. He graduated from Sacramento State with his teaching credential.
Gary was a dedicated educator who taught in various locations such as Napa, Milwaukee, San Francisco and Fremont. He took pride in the accomplishments of his students and enjoyed the ongoing relationships he kept with many of them.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Lucy Franklin (David), and Amy Triplett (Noah); grandchildren Ben and Sarah Franklin, and Emma and Ella Triplett; also his brothers, John Rawlins (Vicki) and Dennis Rawlins (Gail); his sister, Barbara Estes(Raymond); his nieces and nephews; his family, Betty Rawlins and Helen Schmidtpott; and his many friends.

He felt very blessed and full of pride because of his grandchildren. They were truly his utmost source of joy and he was so proud to be their “Gran-pa.”
Gary had a strong faith, and was a devoted Christian who was active with his church. He was an avid baseball fan, enjoyed golf, culinary arts, fine wine, gardening, listening to music, reading and writing, nature and specifically spending time at the ocean.
Gary was a gentleman, was sensitive, sweet, intelligent, generous and caring. He touched many lives, more than he realized. He will be greatly missed.
There will be a memorial service held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3521 Linda Vista Ave. in Napa.
