On the evening of February 19th 2018 Larry passed away peacefully from a lengthy illness at Napa valley care center, with his daughter and son -in-law at his side. A long time American canyon resident, Larry was 78 years old . Larry was born in west Frankfort, Il., on September 9th 1939. He and his twin brother Garry were the youngest of 3 sons of Lenny and Raymond Johnson.

Larry and his family moved to Napa in the mid 1940’s . His father worked and retired from Kaiser steel. His mother worked and retired from Napa state hospital. Larry graduated from Napa high school in 1958 and went on to join the Army. It was while stationed in Europe that he met his future wife Renee Portelas from Bussac France. Larry worked for many years as a type setter for the Vallejo Times Herald and the Vallejo independent press. He went on to work for the Napa valley school district. Larry , fluent in French, was a kind soul that loved spending time outdoors, he loved camping and spending the night under the stars, the sound of the surf and the smells of the forest.

One of his happiest times was fishing with his grandsons. He also loved French food, wine and breakfast, Eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, orange juice and a large glass of milk were his favorite. He enjoyed games of all kinds, but by far and away his favorite pastime was reading. He loved mysteries and thrillers. James Patterson and David Baldacci being his favorites.

Larry was proceeded in death by his wife and soulmate Renee Portelas Johnson, his 2nd wife Zita Patricia Greeno Johnson, brothers Keith and twin Garry Johnson. He is survived by daughter Tabatha Johnson and Ken winey of Coeurdalene, Id. Steven, Corey and Shaun grandchildren, Norma Johnson, Tina and David Wood, Pam and Perri Knopp, Kelli and Bruce Hoffer, Jack and holly Ammon, Whitney Wood and Tiffany Wood.

His resting place will be near his wife and soul mate Renee Johnson at Tulacay cemetery. In Napa , Ca.
