Lucretia Carolyn Brooks was 90 years old when she passed on Nov. 17, 2013. She passed in comfort at home, in American Canyon. She and her husband, Bill, were married 67 years. Together, they raised three sons. They also had one granddaughter, three grandsons and a great-granddaughter on the way.
Born in 1923 in La Grande, Ore., Lou attended a commercial school in Portland, Ore., and became head secretary for Durkee Foods. During the war, she worked at Lockheed in L.A.
Lou got a lot of fun out of life, square dancing and cooking for people. She loved the country and always was a country girl. She was known for picking and canning fruits and made the most of the berries, apples and nuts. She made every other homemade food you could name.
Her husband, Bill, or Willy as she liked to call him, provided a home in the Valley of the Moon. Lou opened her home to voters at the polling place during elections.
She loved to be with people and had quite a sense of humor. Lou also enjoyed panning for gold, traveling the U.S. and collecting antique buttons. She just loved laughing, having fun, and making the best out of life.
There will be a memorial service, with food, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the clubhouse at 260 American Canyon Road, American Canyon, CA, 94503.
