Martha Rose Meals
1939—2017Martha Rose Meals, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, departed this world for the next on Thanksgiving Day of this year, surrounded by family and friends, as the result of a stroke at age 78. She joined her very missed husband of 58 years, Robert Wolcott Meals jr., who had passed away only four months prior. Martha was the devoted military wife of her husband, accompanying him to many parts of the United States and the world, raising her children with equal devotion and care. Martha embraced her Air Force life with enthusiasm and great openness to different cultures and experiences, impressing all with her charm and exquisite taste. Settling finally in St. Helena, Martha tremendously enjoyed her new life in Napa Valley, where she made many friends. She especially cherished the time she spent at Grace Episcopal Church, with all its activities, most particularly the Adopt-a-Family program.
Martha leaves behind her son, Robert Wolcott Meals 3rd, daughter Joan (Dennis) Hawki, grandchildren Jodi and Garrett Hawki, sisters Ruth Gorski and Marge (Bill) Powers, nieces Chris (Russ) Randolph, Ruth (Chuck) DiMaria, Terry Elam, and nephews Bill (Rhonda) Powers, John Powers, and John Winkler, also brother-in-law David Meals. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wolcott Meals jr., her mother, Rose Dobrindt Hendy and her father John Francis Hendy, as well as her sister Carol Winkler.
Memorial will take place Friday, January 19th 2018, 10am at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Helena, California.
