The husband-and-wife team of Morgan and Irma Robinson will open Southside, a new coffee house and cafe at 2770 Old Sonoma Road in Napa on April 14.

The owners will be serving California cuisine with a Latin influence, along with specialty coffee from Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters and Kilogram tea. Craft beer and wine from friends and neighbors will round out the menu.

With a focus on specialty coffee, food, beer and wine, Southside will be open daily serving breakfast, lunch and drinks.

"Everything will be made from scratch at the cafe or in the Smoke Open Fire Cooking catering kitchen," according to a press release.

Southside will highlight local ingredients and vendors, whenever possible. "Many dishes are cooked over an open flame, highlighting the ingredients' authentic flavors from the Mediterranean roots of rotisserie, grilling and open-hearth cooking," the release said.

Morgan Robinson has more than 25 years of culinary experience at locations including The Ritz-Carlton/Aspen, Bistro Don Giovanni, Domaine Chandon, Cakebread Wine Cellars and Franciscan Estates.

The menu will focus on market-influenced ingredients and simple flavors. Breakfast items include Dutch Babies, a cast-iron pancake with lemon and powdered sugar that Morgan Robinson learned to make at his first cooking job at the Winchester Inn in Ashland, Oregon.

Also on the breakfast menu is bacon “steak,” pork belly that is smoked in the wood-burning oven, then seared until crispy; and chilaquiles that reminisce on Irma Robinson’s Mexican heritage. Lunch will include a classic Cuban sandwich and a farro salad with baby kale, roasted squash, golden raisins and capers.

The drinks menu will offer a full range of Wrecking Ball Coffee drinks, including pour over, fresh brewed and espresso. Mexican hot chocolate, tea and agua fresca will be offered as well on the nonalcoholic drinks list. The small wine selection will come from friends and neighbors in the Napa Valley and will rotate. Craft beer will balance out the drinks menu.

The Robinsons describe Southside as "a place to gather for coffee and breakfast. Enjoy a leisurely lunch on the patio or grab lunch on the go. Have a pick-me-up or glass of wine with friends in the afternoon."

It will be open seven days a week, from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Information is available at SouthsideNapa.com.
