Airport commission clears proposed Meritage expansion

A proposed expansion for the Meritage Resort and Spa has been deemed compatible with the nearby Napa County Airport.

The Napa County Airport Land Use Commission made the ruling on Wednesday. The 325-room hotel is located at 850 and 875 Bordeaux Way in Napa near the Grape Crusher statue.

Meritage wants to add 134 rooms, a spa, a wellness center, a small market for guests, an outdoor event center and parking. Although the expansion includes an 80-foot-high tower and a 78-foot-high tower that would be above the 50-foot height limit for the area, the commission decided this wouldn’t create a flight hazard. Existing power lines there are 100 feet tall.

Now the project will return to the city of Napa planners for further approvals.
