A Sonoma man was arrested early Monday after a crash during which he was suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Jose Quezada Castillo, 50, was driving north on Old Sonoma Road north of Congress Valley Road in a 1993 Mercury Sable at about 12:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle left the road and hit a stop sign, a guard rail, and a wood and metal fence.

His passenger, Flora Valencia, 25, of Sonoma, suffered a minor cut. Castillo suffered major injuries to his back and head.

Both were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center.
