Five people were hospitalized with major injuries after a head-on collision Saturday afternoon near Lake Berryessa in rural Napa County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

At 1 p.m., a 2018 Ford on westbound Highway 128 east of Chiles Pope Valley Road crossed the center line for unknown reasons, colliding with a 2014 Honda in the eastbound lane, CHP said in a news release.

Three people in the Ford were transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center after the wreck – the driver, 43-year-old Christina Cheever of Encino, and passengers Darin Greenblatt, 52, of Los Angeles and Ashley Chung, 41, of La Crescenta. Also injured and taken to the Queen was 42-year-old Phillip Benson of Sacramento, a passenger in the Honda.

Highway 128 was shut down in both directions to make room for an air ambulance that flew at least one of the occupants to Queen of the Valley, according to CHP.

The woman driving the Honda, 41-year-old Taryn Benson of Sacramento, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
