The UpValley Family Centers and Nimbus Arts are hosting the 9th Annual Día de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead Community Celebration on Sunday.
The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the Napa Valley College, Upper Valley Campus in St. Helena. Last year, more than 400 people attended the family-friendly event, celebrating this honored Mexican tradition.
The Día de los Muertos Community Celebration is a free event of multicultural activities, including: a creative display of more than 15 altars created by local youth, families and community organizations; free art activities including retablos, tin arts, and sugar skulls; diverse Latin American music and dance performances; storytelling with Olga Loya; face painting; and locally made food at low cost.
"After the hard work of harvest, this event is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon relaxing with family and friends," said Jenny Ocón, executive director of UpValley Family Center. "For many, it is a chance to celebrate a tradition they grew up with and love; for others it is an opportunity to learn and experience a new cultural tradition right here in St. Helena."
The 9th Annual Dia de los Muertos event is sponsored by: Wells Fargo Bank, Kaiser Permanente, First Five Napa County, Sarah and Alan Galbraith, Jones Family Vineyards, and the Cave Company.
