A Marin County man was arrested for allegedly embezzling nearly $30,000 from a Napa winery, according to court documents.

Attorney Peter Winkler, 61, of Tiburon was employed by Thomas Knoll Winery to perform bookkeeping and pay bills. Winkler participated in felony embezzlement and grand theft by embezzlement between Nov. 27, 2013 and Oct. 5, 2015, according to court documents.

The charges were filed in Napa County despite attempts by Winkler to pay the money back in $5,000 installments. Winkler paid back $10,000 in hopes of not having a criminal case against him, according to the complaint form filed with the Napa Police on Jan. 22.

Winkler was arrested and booked in the Marin County jail in San Rafael on a warrant issued in Napa County. He posted the $20,000 bail shortly after on March 29, according to court documents.

He is ordered to appear in Napa County Superior Court on April 28.

Winkler is the chairman for the Tiburon Parks, Open Space & Trails Commission.
