The Merced County man arrested on suspicion of stealing cash and lottery tickets from the 7-Eleven on First Street in Napa last week pleaded not guilty to robbery in court on Thursday.

Video surveillance from the store shows Jaswant Singh, 30, of Atwater inside the store with a knife in his right hand taking cash from the register and lottery tickets, according to police reports.

Singh exited the store before police arrived, but was stopped in a nearby vehicle. Singh, a passenger in the vehicle, was identified and arrested. Cash and lottery tickets were located in the vehicle, police said.

Singh was charged with second degree robbery and a special allegation that he used a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime. He pleaded not guilty before Judge Mark Boessenecker in Napa County Superior Court on Thursday.

His next court date is set for May 22.
