Napa City Fire

Napa Fire quickly put out a reported structure fire Tuesday morning at La Morenita Market, 2434 Jefferson St.

First responders found smoke coming out of the grocery at 4:33 a.m. and put out a produce display on fire inside, Capt. Steve Becker reported.

Jefferson Street was closed in both directions for about an hour because a hose line had to be extended to a hydrant across the street, Becker said.

It appeared that the produce display had a mechanical/electric malfunction of some sort. The cause is under investigation, the department said.

Napa Fire dispatched three engines and a ladder truck. Firefighters stayed to help with cleanup.

The market was expected to reopen on Wednesday, an employee said.
