Napa Police will deploy additional officers on special DUI patrols this Cinco de Mayo weekend, the department said.
Police emphasized the slogan: "Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving."
There are many other ways to ensure a safe ride home, including Uber and Lyft, besides relying on a friend, police said.
On Thursday, AAA announced that it would offer its free "tipsy driver" program on Saturday night as well. Tipsy Tow provides a free ride home and vehicle tow of up to 10 miles. For mileage beyond this, motorists are charged a standard towing rate. You do not have to be a AAA member to use the service.
AAA’s Tipsy Tow service runs from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
To take advantage of the service, drivers, passengers, party hosts, bartenders and/or restaurant managers should call 1-800-222-4357 and state that they need a Tipsy Tow.
The next statewide DUI campaign is set for Independence Day. The Napa Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting Motorcycle Safety Enforcement on Saturday, May 19, as part of Motorcycle Awareness Month.
