Napa Police will deploy extra officers on Friday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday to look for drivers impaired by drugs and alcohol.

Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI operations are conducted routinely, police said.

Police advise people to find another ride home if they believe themselves to be impaired. A DUI conviction can result in jail time, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, police said.
