NAPA — Charles Robert Mieth went home in his sleep on Oct. 2, 2009. He was born July 3, 1923, to Charles William Mieth and Blanch Melissa Redman Mieth, in Kansas City, Mo. At 11 years of age, he drove a garbage truck in Kansas City, Kan. He graduated from Rosedale High School in 1940.

He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy for a combined 27 years. He served in Naval Intelligence during World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. He then worked at the Sebastopol Post Office for 13 years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Annabelle, and her three daughters, seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mable Green and Glenna Marie Myers; two dear nephews, Charles E. Green and Lonnie L. Green; and other relatives too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Haruyo Hoguchi, and sister Nadine Williams.

At his request there will be no services.
