Elaine Marie Kocarnik was born in 1935 and lived on B Street in Napa as a young girl. She married Gus Kalamaras in 1952 and lived in Roswell, New Mexico while her husband was stationed in the Air Force. They moved to Vallejo in 1956 and eventually resided in Napa in 1963 on Big Ranch Road. She was an active leader in the local 4-H club with all her six children raising guide dogs, sheep, and pigs among other projects. She obtained an Early Childhood Education degree at Napa Valley College in 1980 and worked for several families in Napa as a nanny. Elaine was a longtime antique dealer at the Red Hen and later the Riverfront Collective downtown. Many antique dealers called her for appraisals and advice. She and her second husband, Don, managed many estate sales for families and real estate professionals. She enjoyed finding things with a story and filled her house with many collections of glass, figurines and art. Elaine loved to travel to Kauai annually to relax, read and enjoy island life. During the summers, she would invite the family to go boating with them on the SeaRay, “Elaine Marie”. She was always part of her grandchildren’s lives, even traveling to their sports tournaments as part of their fan base.
She is survived by her husband Don Kocarnik, children Vicky Erickson of Napa, Christine Bledsoe of Boise, Nick Kalamaras of Las Vegas, Connie Kalamaras (deceased), Stephanie Faulkner of Napa, John Kalamaras of Newport Beach, niece Zina Kirtlink of Napa, grandchildren Bryan Williams of Boise, Scott Erickson of Santa Cruz, Greg Erickson of Fremont, Amanda Smith of Bozeman, Marissa Faulkner of Eugene, Alec Faulkner of Napa, Austin Blodgett, Aidan and Graysen Kalamaras of Newport Beach.
No funeral services will be held as per her wishes. The family is having a private celebration of life in the spring.
