A suspected shoplifter was arrested after allegedly attempting to push a shopping cart carrying $800 in merchandise out of the American Canyon Walmart without paying on Thursday afternoon, according to American Canyon Police.

Daniel Joseph Hebert, 25, of Brentwood, who police say did not cooperate with loss prevention staff, was leaving the scene when he was stopped by officers. Hebert was found with a concealed dagger as well as heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana, police said. Officers located an additional $1,440 worth of stolen property in Hebert’s vehicle, police said.

Hebert was arrested and booked at the Napa County jail on suspicion of carrying a concealed dagger, receiving stolen property, conspiracy and petty theft.

Police said they believe Hebert was working with another suspect who has yet to be identified.
