Ignasio Velazquez's brother had been dead for more than 20 years.

But that didn't stop Velazquez, 46, from using his brother's ID to avoid arrest at the scene of a Wednesday night traffic collision, police said, where Napa Police Department officers were on the scene.

Velazquez sustained minor injuries in a collision at Golden Gate Drive and W. Imola Avenue just before midnight. He was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Officers later determined that the ID belonged not to Velazquez, but to his brother, who has been deceased since 1997, police said. They checked Velazquez's records and saw that he had an outstanding warrant.

He was arrested and remains in custody.
