Body found in van on Napa street

A Pontiac minivan is prepared for removal by a tow truck Sunday night on Wilkins Avenue in Napa. Witnesses reported the discovery of a body inside the vehicle, and Napa Police cordoned off a section of the street.

Napa Police were continuing to investigate the discovery Sunday night of a dead man in the back of a van parked on the 2000 block of Wilkins Avenue in east Napa.

"There are no signs of foul play," Lt. Debbie Peecook said Monday morning, but an autopsy will be scheduled for this week.

The owner of the van called police Sunday to say a dead man whom he did not know was in the back of his minivan, which had been parked on the street, Peecook said.

Police have identified the deceased, but all of his immediate relatives have not yet been notified, she said.

Although the van had been parked on the street for many days, the body in the van had appeared only recently, Peecook said.

Police towed the van as part of their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Todd Shulman at 253-4256.
