A 32-year-old man was arrested just after midnight Friday morning after leading police on a vehicle chase through American Canyon and into Vallejo, according to American Canyon Police.
Officers attempted to stop the older, scratched up Dodge Magnum donning only paper license plates after the vehicle made an illegal U-turn seemingly to avoid police in the area of Mini Drive near Highway 29, police said. The vehicle failed to yield to police, triggering a pursuit from Broadway Street to Highway 37 and onto I-80 west.
While traveling on I-80 through Vallejo, the motorist attempted to lose the officer with “sudden and dangerous, fast lane-to-exit maneuvers,” police said. The motorist finally lost control of the vehicle while attempting a second evasive maneuver at the Georgia Street exit, police said. After stopping, the driver, later identified as David Charles Washington of Vallejo, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Washington was soon apprehended. According to police, Washington said he fled because he knew he had warrants out for his arrest. Police reported that Washington did not have any warrants. Cocaine, heroin and cash, however, were found on him.
Washington was arrested and booked at the Napa County jail on suspicion of possessing narcotics packaged for sale, transportation of narcotics and for reckless evading.
