Matt Pope's resignation from the county Planning Commission has opened up a vacancy on a body involved in some of the county's biggest growth issues.
Pope's last meeting will be on Wednesday. He said he is leaving the commission because of the time demands of a new job.
The commission addresses land-use issues, in some cases making decisions and in others making recommendations to the county Board of Supervisors. Among the issues it is tackling is the proposed expansion of the Syar quarry, proposals for new wineries and proposals for winery expansions.

The term will be through December 2016. The Planning Commission typically meets at 9 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at the county Administration Building in Napa.
Candidates can live anywhere in the county. In this case, Supervisor Keith Caldwell will make a nomination that will be brought to the Board of Supervisors. Caldwell represents the 5th district that covers the southeast county, including American Canyon.
