Sheep eating spring growth in Etude's Carneros vineyard.

Some 3,000 sheep are feasting this week on vineyard greenery at Etude’s Grace Benoist Ranch in Carneros.

The sheep are a natural way to tidy up a vineyard before the 2019 growing season.

There is less danger of compacting soils and producing greenhouse gasses from machinery vineyard officials say. At the same time, the sheep put natural fertilizer back into the soil.
