Sheriff: 2 more found dead in Napa County

From the THE LATEST: Napa County Wildfire Updates series

Two more people have been confirmed dead this week in connection to the Atlas Fire that burned scores of homes Sunday night, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

The bodies were found about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on the 2300 block of Atlas Peak Road – a residence that belonged to Dr. George Chaney, 89. One of the bodies has been positively identified as Chaney’s.

The other body is believed to be that of 79-year-old Edward Stone.

Both families have been notified.

Two other deaths in Napa County were confirmed earlier this week. Husband and wife Sara Rippey, 99, and Charles Rippey, 100, died in their home on Atlas Peak Road, which caught fire Sunday.

The Sheriff’s Coroner forensic search team and Napa County Search and Rescue are continuing to search residences for missing fire victims.
