A Napa County man evaded deputies for more than an hour as he sped along Monticello Road and Atlas Peak Road on Tuesday morning, running red lights and even crashing into another vehicle along the way, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the scene of an alleged trespassing on Hagen Road about 8:30 a.m. when the suspect, Eugene Takashi Nieves, 30, of Monticello Road, ran a red light at Atlas Peak Road and headed east on Monticello Road, Capt. Keith Behlmer said.

When Nieves started reaching speeds faster than 90 mph, deputies temporarily stopped the pursuit and, instead, sent law enforcement officials to Nieves’ residence.

Deputies picked the pursuit back up at Steele Canyon Road and setup a spike strip at Moskowite Corner, where Nieves’ front tires were flattened, Behlmer said.

Nieves continued down Monticello Road towards Circle Oaks Drive, eventually popping his rear two tires on a spike strip setup on Wooden Valley Road. He then continued to drive, running another red light near Vichy Avenue, holding his shirt over his face and finally stopping at Silverado Trail. There, Nieves got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Nieves was booked at the Napa County jail on suspicion of reckless evading, evading an officer, obstructing an officer, committing a hit and run and a violating probation.
