Senior Deputy Steve Lombardi was the first deputy to arrive at the scene of the shooting at The Pathway Home in Yountville last week, exchanging fire with the shooter Albert Wong, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release on Friday.
Lombardi was not injured during the shooting, but has been placed on administrative leave – standard practice for officer-involved shootings, the office said.
Lombardi has been with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 27 years.
Wong, 36, ran back into The Pathway Home building after exchanging fire with Lombardi. He shot himself with a shotgun after killing three female clinicians of The Pathway Home: Executive Director Christine Loeber, 48, therapist Jennifer Golick, 42, and psychologist Jennifer Gonzales (Shushereba), 32. Gonzales was 26 weeks pregnant and the baby did not survive.
