John Tuteur filed for re-election last week as Napa County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk. “I appreciate the trust Napa County voters have placed in me for the past 31 years, and I am ready for tomorrow’s challenges,” Tuteur said in a prepared statement.
Tuteur touted achievements including his initiative to reduce the assessed value of 10,000 properties, saving owners $20 million in property taxes. “I responded promptly to falling real estate prices and will continue to review the value of single family homes each year until the market has returned to normal,” he said.

Tuteur said he is launching a project to put Napa County’s land ownership records online back to the original documents from 1848. He also said he continues to provide smooth and accurate election services, as demonstrated by the November 2008 presidential election.
“I want every eligible voter to register, every registered voter to cast a ballot and every vote to count,” Tuteur said.
