American Canyon police arrested two men late Friday night on suspicion of methamphetamine possession and mail theft, according to authorities.

At 11:50 p.m., an officer saw a parked van at James Road and Thayer Way with the driver’s side door open, according to Napa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Crawford. Major Jamal Jordan, 26, of Benicia was standing by the door while 41-year-old Moises Melencino DeLeon was walking away from the van, Crawford said.

The officer asked permission to search the vehicle and found three backpacks — one with a suspected methamphetamine pipe, another with suspected meth, and a third containing mail stolen from various Bay Area addresses, according to Crawford.

Both men were detained on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and theft, and Jordan also was held on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. They were booked into the Napa County jail.
